Dispelling the “AI” hype – one post at a time

So, for the past months, supposedly we are living the “AI” apocalypse/revolution (depending on your reality tunnel).

A lot of folks are predicting doom and gloom, an equal opposing lot of folks are predicting better days ahead. My viewpoint about AI is worth a separate post, which I prefer not to spoil here. As you can guess from the title “AI” is hyped to outer-space-and-beyond and we have yet to reach equilibrium. A necessary step in reaching said equilibrium is to dismantle the hype, achieving synthesis. It works in the opposite direction too, by now I am sure you have heard how attackers leveraging “AI” will perform one doom scenario, after the other.

Maintaining a critical mindset is crucial. In addition to my own opinions, for the near/mid future, I plan to share resources that help clear both sides of hype.

One of these resources is this great article by Chris Rohlf. Read it, it raises quite a few excellent points. One point I particularly agree is that “Publishing research of this type, without the data to back up claims, can reinforce the false narrative that AI models are dangerous for cyber security and must be controlled. This is simply not true of current state of the art models.”

Until next time, stay critical.
